I have been out of the military since 1973 and I need to know can I get tricare coverage for myself and my spouse?

Hello, and thanks for your question.

You may be able to get VA care for yourself, but your spouse would only qualify if she, too, is a veteran. Even then, there are several different tiers for the VA, with service disabled veterans receiving priority.

You and your wife both have to be enrolled in DEERS. If you aren't enrolled in DEERS, you can't get TRICARE.

You don't have to have put in the full 20 years, though. If you were medically retired, you may also be eligible for TRICARE as well.

For more information on eligibility, see this Website: http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/home/overview/Eligibility/WhoIsEligible/MedicareBeneficiaries

Thanks for writing!

Jason
