The Marine Corps Enlistment Bonus Program

Highly qualified applicants may be eligible to receive one of the Marine Corps' two enlistment incentives. These incentives are the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) Bonus and the Shipping Bonus.

Because the MOS needs, ship dates and award levels can vary, contact a Marine Corps recruiter for the most current specific details.

Marine Corps MOS Bonus

The MOS bonus is a cash incentive to enlist in a specific, high-demand job specialty in the Marine Corps. To receive the complete bonus, a recruit must remain in the particular MOS through the duration of the enlistment term.

Marine Corps Shipping Bonuses

There is no length of term requirement for Shipping Bonuses; these are paid when the recruit completes initial training. The Shipping Bonus is designed to ensure participation during specific recruit training times throughout the year.

Marine Corps Reserve Re-Enlistment Bonus

The Marine Corps Reserve offers cash and education bonuses for re-enlisting. Most of these can be combined with either the Army Reserve’s Loan Repayment Program or the Army Reserve GI Bill Kicker, but not both.

Marine Corps Reserve Cash Reenlistment Bonus

Both first and second-time reenlistment bonuses are $5,000, paid in a lump sum. A Marine must be in the rank of Sergeant or Staff Sergeant, with less than 16 years of total military service, and reenlist into a specific MOS.

To qualify, a Marine must:

  • Reenlist for a period of 3 years.
  • Complete the required training commensurate with their grade and PMOS.
  • Pass their mandatory participation stop date.

There is a specific window of opportunity to apply for a second re-enlistment bonus. A Marine must reenlist no earlier than 30 days prior to the end of their current contract, but not later than the date on which the enlistment for which the first bonus would expire. If the Marine is on their eight-year military service obligation (MSO), they make application within one year of its expiration.
