Navy Advanced Enlistment Incentives

Qualified recruits may enlist at an advanced paygrade, which will allow them to be paid at a higher level. The higher rank/rating will not be awarded until the recruit graduates from basic training.

The customary enlisted grade is E-1; however, if the criteria are met for Advanced Enlistment, a recruit may advance to E-2 or E3 effective the first day of active duty. The criteria for Advanced Enlistment are:
  • college credit
  • vocational training
  • High School Military Academies
  • referred another recruit for the extended Delayed Enlistment Program

Membership in the following programs will also qualify for advanced enlistment:
  • Sea Scouts
  • Navy Sea Cadet Corps
  • Civil Air Patrol
  • High School JROTC
  • Scouting
  • Young Marines

Whether the Advanced Enlisted recruit will qualify for E-2 or E-3 will depend on the number of credits or rank within the qualifying program. A Navy recruiter can provide additional information on qualifications and requirements.
