Army National Guard Bonus and Incentive Overview


The Army National Guard offers cash signing bonuses and education incentives for joining. The Army National Guard may combine more than one incentive to pay a combined bonus up to $20,000.

Army National Guard Cash Bonuses at a Glance:
  • National Guard Non-Prior Service Enlistment Bonuses – up to $20,000
  • Non-Prior Service Quick Ship or Off-Peak Bonus - $5,000 (each)
  • Prior Service Affiliation Bonus – up to $20,000
  • Civilian Acquired Skills Program (CASP) Bonus – $10,000

Army National Guard MOS Non-Prior Service Bonuses
Consult your local Army National Guard recruiter for the most current information, since there are various Non-Prior Service Bonuses available for both critical and non-critical Military Occupational Specialties (MOS). 

Critical Unit Bonus
This is a lump sum payment of up to $20,000 for joining an Army National Guard Unit that has been designated as being in critical need.

Critical Skills Bonus
This is a bonus of $20,000, paid half at completion of basic training and half at a designated date, for eligible applicants with a Critical Skill MOS who are assigned to a Non-Critical Unit.

Non-Critical Skills Bonus
This bonus of $20,000, paid through the 50/50 payment plan, is for applicants who choose any MOS in any Non-Critical Unit.

Civilian Acquired Skills Program (CASP) Bonus
Applicants who have prior professional training and experience may be eligible for a $10,000 bonus. This bonus is paid through the 50/50 payment plan.

Quick Ship and Off-Peak Bonus
This bonus is for an applicant who is willing and able to report to basic training within 45 days or adjust their ship date as necessary. Off-Peak period runs from October through May. Note that both of these bonuses may be combined as long as they do not exceed $20,000.

National Guard Prior Service Bonuses
Personnel who have completed a previous military service obligation of no more than 16 years total may receive an enlistment bonus of up to $15,000, paid under the 50/50 payment plan.  Eligibility requirements for prior service enlistment bonuses vary. Consult a local Army National Guard recruiter for details.

Non-Critical Unit Bonus
Applicants with a Critical Skill MOS who are assigned to a Non-Critical Unit may be eligible for a $20,000 bonus, paid through the 50/50 payment plan.

Prior Service Affiliation Bonuses
Active Duty Soldiers who choose to transition directly into a Critical Skill in the National Guard may be eligible for a lump sum bonus of up to $20,000, paid under the 50/50 payment plan.
