Air Force to Airmen with Leave: Use it or Lose it by October 1, 2013

The Air Force has decided to end the 120-day Leave Carryover Policy for active duty and active guard reserve members. Airmen with more than 60 days of leave must use it or lose it by October 1, 2013, when the provision expires.

The exception to this use-or-lose policy is rare: Airmen who are approved for special leave accrual (SLA) could be authorized to carry as much as 120 days for as long as four years, depending upon their location and situation.

To be considered for SLA, Airmen should submit a request to their unit commander. Deployed Airmen are required to identify themselves to Personnel Support for Contingency Operations.
