Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment

It is a grave misfortune that many veterans upon release turn to alcohol or drugs to aid them in facing unemployment situations, or putting active service experiences behind them. In some cases alcohol and substance abuse are symptomatic of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Fortunately, alcohol and substance abuse treatment are eligible for treatment from the Veteran’s Administration. If you are a veteran with alcohol and/or substance issues and are entitled to Veteran’s Administration health care, you can apply to the VA for substance abuse treatment. Also, those veterans without a service-related disability and income that exceeds the maximum for free care, can get drug and alcohol dependency assistance if they make a co-payment.

Additional and comprehensive information about VA programs for alcohol and drug abuse is available at your local VA office. Also, if you visit the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services web-site. The center has several programs for prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

For more information on these programs, get in touch with your local VA office, or visit the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Web site. The center features programs for substance abuse treatment and prevention.
