TRICARE Reserve Select (Out-of-pocket) Costs

The TRICARE Reserve Select plan has some out of pocket costs associated with it. This plan is for reserve service members and their families, so naturally it costs more than the plans that are for active duty personnel. There is a monthly premium with this plan. If you are single and only covering yourself, the monthly premium is $54.35 per month. However, if you are covering yourself as well as your family members, the premium you will have to pay each month is $192.89. The inpatient cost share for these plans is $16.85 per day and a $25 minimum charge. This inpatient charge is the same whether it is for an in network provider or a non-network provider. The outpatient care is 15% of the negotiated rate for the network providers and 20% of the TRICARE allowable charge for the non-network providers. The out of pocket costs for this may seem like a lot until you compare this plan with other civilian plans that are available. If you look around, you will find that this is a very competitive plan.
