TRICARE Prime - Is it right for me?

TRICARE Prime is one of the most affordable coverage plans available to currently and formerly serving members of the military and their families who do not qualify for Medicare due to age (65 and over). Active duty service members are required to sign up for TRICARE Prime.

TRICARE Prime is available in the United States in areas known as Prime Service Areas. Once you decide that TRICARE Prime is the best option for you, the next step is to enroll in the program. You can do this three different ways: through email, regular mail, or by visiting a TRICARE Service Center and filling out the TRICARE Prime Enrollment and PCM Change Form in person. You should receive a welcome letter shortly after applying and will be asked to submit an enrollment fee. Active duty members and their families are exempt from both enrollment fees and most out-of-pocket expenses. Although TRICARE Prime offers less out-of-pocket costs, it also offers less options for health care providers. Consult the TRICARE Choices Guide to see a detailed list of these providers.
