Who is Eligible for Navy Tuition Assistance?

The Navy Tuition Assistance program is there to help those who are qualified to pay for college, or for vocational or certification training. If you're eligible, there's no reason not to take full advantage of these benefits in order to further your career beyond the military. Who is eligible?

Navy TA program eligibility requirements:

  • Naval Officer and Enlisted active duty personnel, or a Naval Reservist on continuous active duty
  • Enlisted Reservists ordered to active duty for 120 days
  • Naval ReservistOfficers ordered to active duty for 2 years or more
  • Service members must be active duty for the entire time of the course
  • Eligibility requires that the college be accredited regionally, nationally or professionally.

Beyond eligibility, you also need to consider requirements. For instance, you need to receive counseling from your Navy College Office before you apply to the TA program. If you receive a failing grade, or if you withdraw, you need to reimburse the Navy for their assistance. While not "required" it is strongly recommended that you talk to a supervisor or your Division Chief before seeking assistance with the Navy College Office.

The Tuition Assistance Program is flexible, so if you are eligible, you should certainly take advantage. Even if you're not set on a specific career path and want to leave yourself with options, you can take one course now and pursue further courses later on. Or study for one semester here there as you are able. Ultimately, this program can empower your life. A history of military service plus a college education will result in an incredibly wide range of options for your future.
