How Do I Apply for Navy Tuition Assistance Benefits?

Navy Tuition Assistance (TA) helps active duty personnel pay for the cost of education taken during off-duty hours. The Navy will pay for tuition and fees for courses from any accredited institution. TA Assistance is capped at $250 per semester hour and $166.67 per quarter hour.

TA is available to Enlisted, Officers and Reserve members that are on continuous active duty. To receive Navy TA assistance you must receive counseling from the Navy College Office. Part of eligibility for Navy TA is that you must provide the Navy College Office with all grades from previously funded TA courses. You will have to reimburse the Navy if you fail or withdraw from any TA courses. If you are an Officer you have to agree to remain on active duty at least two years after you complete TA funded courses.

If you are eligible you may be able to take a CLEP/DSST exam instead of taking a course. Talk with your Navy College advisor to find out about CLEP/DSST practice tests and credit.

The Navy College Office is the first place to start when applying for Navy TA. Your Navy College advisor will be your point of contact for all TA questions. You then will need to fill out Form NETPDTC 1560/3. After filling out the form you will need to get command approval to enroll in the course. Then sign the application yourself and return it to the Navy College Office for processing.

Things to pay attention to when applying and using Navy TA include:

  • Make sure that you fill out the form accurately and completely.
  • Carefully read and make sure you understand all the rules of the application. Your signature on this application is a binding contract and if you don't meet your obligations you will have to reimburse the Navy for TA funds.
  • After finishing your course, fax or mail a copy of your grades to the TA Accounting Office in Pensacola, FL.
