National Guard Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance is offered by the National Guard to support service members' educational goals. This includes a 100% Tuition Assistance program for taking college courses that are during off-duty hours. The National Guard, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard each have their own Tuition Assistance programs. Additionally, each state may offer its National Guard personnel state-funded education incentives to further your options.

The Guard offers many of the benefits available to other members of the Armed Forces such as Tuition Assistance of up to $18,000 over four years, the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Additionally, there is an Army National Guard Kicker that can help cover living expenses, ROTC Scholarships and a Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) for service members who have signed up for a 6-year or 8-year enlistment and already have existing student loans.

Federal Tuition Assistance is based on available funds. Not all states offer Tuition Assistance but many do offer State Tuition Waivers to reduce the cost you would need to pay out-of-pocket. Before deciding to enroll in any classes, check with your specific school and or your Guard superiors to ensure that you are eligible for benefits. It is also a good idea to apply for any federal grants and aid that you may be eligible for as most of the time they can be used in conjunction with other programs.
