New tool for tailored transition planning coming soon to DANTES

A leading provider of internet-based career planning and support tools will soon be available to active duty and transitioning service members.

Kuder Journey is a tool designed to guide individuals through degree planning, career planning and job search processes. It offers a step-by-step process and flexible exploration opportunities to allow the user to explore career options, examine education and training possibilities, and seek job opportunities.

The step-by-step process outlined below can be completed in order, or the user can simply choose to complete the step within the process that most readily meets their needs.

  1. Assessments: Kuder Journey offers research-based assessments of the users interests, skills and work values. This self-examination facilitates more focused exploration and greater satisfaction.
  2. Occupations: This search helps users who seek a specific skill or job related college major refine a list of occupations that are well-suited to their abilities.
  3. Education and Financial Aid: This step helps users to match the field or industry they are interested in to associated educational or training requirements and financial aid options (GI Bill included).
  4. Job Search Tools: Helpful tools for writing a cover letter, interviewing, crafting a resume and collecting resumes.
  5. Finding a Job: Research employers, identify local companies, find available jobs with this tool.

Kuder has tailored this tool with features specific to veterans and military members transitioning concerns and offers features that can be even further customized to the users’ individual needs, such as:

  • Input ASVAB scores to job search - Journey can use ASVAB scores to suggest job fields for the user to consider. Plus, they will combine the ASVAB scores with other assessments to help hone in on the ideal job.
  • GI Bill of Rights – Journey connects users directly to the VA and GI Bill Web site for more information about available educational benefits. In addition, the site provides valuable benefits resources like scholarship information, discounts, and mentors.
  • Find military-friendly employers - Employers who are actively seeking candidates with military experience are listed here.
  • Skill Translator - Uses a Military to Civilian Occupation Translator to find the closest matches between military and civilian occupations.

It’s not live yet, but is expected soon. Contact your local education center or DANTES counseling support for more information.
